This is a spiritual practice. It has been given to Humanity so it might be able to respond to the growing planetary necessity for Human Unity and Cooperation. We are encouraged to undertake Steps to Knowledge. This site is a simple aid to introduce people to this practice. There is much more to learn for anyone who becomes a student. As a Steps student since June 27, 1999, I am a witness for its benefit. Tom Christoffel
Small ideas cannot fulfill my need for Knowledge. Step 240 - Steps to Knowledge: The Book of Inner Knowing ~ Spiritual Practices

ideas cannot fulfill my need for Knowledge. Step 240
IDEAS, FANTASTIC IMAGES or wonderful belief systems cannot meet your need for
Knowledge. Ideas alone can set you on your way, but they cannot take you on the
journey. They may speak of greater things awaiting you, but they cannot take
you there, for Knowledge must be your guide to your destiny and your
fulfillment. With ideas you stand at the beginning, pointing the way for
others, but you yourself cannot go.
YOU ARE TRAVELING WITH KNOWLEDGE, Knowledge will extend itself through ideas.
It will extend itself through actions, through gestures and through all the
vehicles of communication in this world. Therefore, do not be content with
ideas alone. Do not think that by speculating upon ideas that you are
comprehending the nature of Knowledge and its true application in the world.
These things can be experienced and observed, but the individuals experiencing
and observing them must be moved at the very core of their being.
DO NOT BE SATISFIED WITH LITTLE THINGS in place of the greatness of your true
being and your purpose in the world. Return to Knowledge, and be grateful for
the ideas that have pointed you in this direction. But realize that the power
that can move you, the power that gives you the strength to prepare and
participate, is born of the great Wisdom and Knowledge that you carry. It
requires Knowledge to follow Knowledge. It requires Knowledge to prepare for
Knowledge. Thus, Knowledge is exercised even as you approach it.
NOT, THEN, REMAIN AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR JOURNEY with ideas alone. Do not
accept little things in place of the greatness of your function. Remind
yourself of this upon the hour and in your deeper meditation practices, once
again enter stillness and peace. Come to your practice without questions. Come
to your practice without petitions. Remind yourself that in Knowledge all
things will be given, all things will be received and all things will be
applied as they are needed. As your mind becomes more simple and open, it will
become a vehicle for Knowledge to express itself in the world.
240: Two 30-minute practice periods. Hourly practice.

Gate in Berlin, Germany. Postcards seemed equivalent to small ideas based on
two references to postcards in messages from The Teachers.
"Next, avoid someone else’s spiritual journey.
Do not dabble in different religions because you will only be a dabbler. You
can only know a religion if you immerse yourself within it. And if you immerse
yourself in it, how can you be studying everything else? There are many people who
take a very eclectic approach, who try to gather a little of this and a little
of that. They have postcards
from all over the spiritual universe, but they have never been anywhere. They
think they understand what Christianity or Buddhism or Islam or any other
religion means, but they have never immersed themselves in any of them. They
have never lived them fully. They have lots of big ideas and no Wisdom. Avoid
this. Avoid trying to tie in what you are doing with what someone else has done
in the past or in the present. Do not make your way spiritual by saying that it
is in keeping with Christianity or Buddhism or any other religion, for you
don’t really know. You have not yet gone far enough."
Chapter 14: What must be avoided? - Greater
Community Spirituality pp 111-112. As revealed to Marshall Vian Summers on
October 23, 1993 in Boulder, Colorado
"If the New Message is your calling, it is
your calling and none other. Do not take the foolish approach of trying to mix
this with that—a patchwork quilt of spiritual ideas from different traditions,
for that means you have never climbed the mountain. You have only sat at the
bottom collecting postcards
from people who have." From: Being a Student of the New Message - Received
by the Messenger Marshall Vian Summers on November 29, 2009 in Bangkok,
If this is your first time seeing one of the “Steps to Knowledge”,
then welcome. There are 365 Steps, daily spiritual practices if one seeks to
complete them in a year, but that is not necessary. They can be used by people
of any religious tradition or no religious tradition. They will help one to
become mindful in the world.
The Step today is from the book: Steps to Knowledge: The Book of Inner Knowing. The practices were
brought to the world through Marshall Vian Summers, The Messenger for The New
Message From God. Important background for the Steps is in: “Greater Community Spirituality” and the “Wisdom Books - I and II”.
Hard copies are available from the New Knowledge Library Store. The
Society for the New Message from God also has a Free Book Project. If you need
the books now, PDF files can be found here: http://goo.gl/RJuuGP
Keeping a journal is recommended. If you have a Steps book,
write your reactions and comments, highlight or underline points that strike
you, and date the note. In this way, your Steps book can be a partial journal.
Using the PDF, you can print out pages as you need them, or use
the software to maintain a digital copy where you can enter notes and highlight
text that stands out.
Other modern methods of keeping a journal include having a
document on your PC or phone to keep notes. You could send yourself an email or
use the voice recorder function. It is important to capture insights and
reactions because it is by this means that you can understand change. Sometimes
it may just be a word or short phrase, an image or a scene.
To end this post I again offer the blessing: "May the
presence of the Teachers be with you." In the invocative language of
Knowledge this blessing is: "Nasi Novare Coram" (pronounced NAH-see
The short form of Nasi Novare Coram used by students is NNC.
P.S. Often it takes 18 months to get through the Steps once. For
this blog, the pace is one-a-day, but it really makes no difference how fast
you do it, only that you begin, persist and repeat. Posts linked below provide
a trail that may let you have a virtual companion when and if you want one. One
may have to study alone, as I did in the beginning. There are other Steps
students blogging their experience and you might find a person more like you as
a companion, or use a number of such Steps journeys.
Doing Steps with only the texts, messages and your life
experience, including what you may have studied and practiced is your journey.
I’m showing Step comments after the Step, so as not to influence anyone in
advance. It is a wilderness trek to be left to your own wits, but then you can
also listen more closely for guides, angels and teachers, always first saying:
“I surround and protect myself with the Love and the Grace of God.” Thankfully,
I was taught this practice in 1989.
